Onchain Heroes retires Marbles as Abstract winds down, opens pro-rata Expedition Pass refunds
On October 8, 2026, Onchain Heroes posted its first studio notice after Abstract said it is winding down: Ringbearers, heroes, and MoG keys are safe, no action is needed for now, and next steps will come soon. In the same update, Marbles left the game because Abstract XP no longer counts toward anything, and players with an active Expedition Pass can cancel for a pro-rata refund in VALOR.
Background
Onchain Heroes: Maze of Gains is the studio’s free-to-open maze crawler on Abstract, playable at playmog.xyz (opens in new tab). Arcade and Expedition loops still run Treasure, Gems, and a weekly prize pool around the franchise HERO token.
On October 6, 2026, Abstract announced a full L2 wind-down with a December 15, 2026 migrate-by date (Abstract winding down: migrate assets before December 15 2026). That piece flagged that catalog titles on Abstract still need each studio’s own notices for inventory and claim paths. This update is Onchain Heroes’ first public reply for Maze of Gains.
Ringbearers are PFP NFTs unlocked by bridging Genesis Rings from Ethereum to Abstract (Ringbearers docs (opens in new tab)). Genesis Heroes are the studio’s hero NFT collection on Abstract (Links & Contracts (opens in new tab)). The October 8 thread says “heroes” without expanding the label.
What happened
Assets safe for now; next steps soon
On October 8, 2026, Onchain Heroes on X (opens in new tab) opened a Weekly Stats + Patch Notes thread: Abstract is winding down, but Ringbearers, heroes, and MoG keys are safe. No action needed for now, and the studio will share next steps soon. Matching Marbles and Pass patch lines also went out in the official Onchain Heroes Discord (opens in new tab); Discord’s short patch list did not include that asset-safety wind-down wording.
OCH has not named a migration destination, date, or plan for Abstract-based assets. The studio also runs other products (for example Idle RPG on Abstract), but none of that is a Maze of Gains migration announce.
Marbles retired because Abstract XP no longer counts
A same-author self-reply states the removal in OCH’s own words: Marbles were how you earned Abstract XP. With Abstract winding down, that XP no longer counts toward anything, so Marbles are removed from the game (Marbles retired self-reply (opens in new tab)).
Runs, Treasure, Gems, and the weekly prize pool are all unchanged.
Studio docs still describe Abstract XP as Abstract’s native reward system and Marbles as the main way to earn it in Onchain Heroes, with weekly auto-redemption (Abstract XP (opens in new tab); Marbles (opens in new tab)). Those pages predate the wind-down notice; use them for what Marbles and Abstract XP were, not as current earn guidance. OCH did not say Abstract XP already earned will be converted, compensated, or paid out.
Expedition Pass: pro-rata refunds in VALOR
Players with an active Expedition Pass can now get a refund for unused time. The amount is pro-rata by days left on the Pass. In-game path: open My Pass (top-left) and use the option to cancel. Refunds are made in VALOR (Pass refund self-reply (opens in new tab); Discord also flagged the in-game refund).
OCH did not say why it opened refunds. They arrive in the same update that retired Marbles, one of the pass perks. That timing is not a first-party claim that refunds are because of the wind-down. The studio also did not say the Pass is discontinued, give a refund deadline, or publish pass prices or refund amounts.
VALOR is the in-game currency across the Onchain Heroes ecosystem. Docs say it is pegged to USDC (100 VALOR = 1 USDC), not a token (balances tracked off-chain), and withdrawable to USDC with a 5% fee and a 24-hour security delay (VALOR docs (opens in new tab), capture October 9, 2026).
The Expedition Pass is a Maze of Gains time-based pass in Basic and VIP tiers. First-party posts and client copy describe perks such as the Quest Board, Corn/drop boosts, Marbles earning, and referral VALOR. It is not described as an NFT.
Mini Jackalot always drops loot
Mini Jackalot now always drops loot: if he does not drop a Gem, he drops 100 Treasure instead of leaving you empty-handed. Gem odds are unchanged, and his defeat now also counts toward your weekly pool (Mini Jackalot self-reply (opens in new tab)).
That change follows the October 1 return of Mini Jackalot on Arcade floors 3–9 (Onchain Heroes Maze of Gains Update: weekly pool USDC and AGW bridge warning).
This week’s snapshot
The same October 8 thread shared studio weekly figures (treat as a one-week studio snapshot):
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Runs created | 1,837 |
| Keys burnt | 23,601 |
| Weekly prize pool | $16,521 |
| Gem payouts to players | $4,971 |
Who it affects
Players holding Ringbearers, heroes, or MoG keys
OCH says those assets are safe and that no action is needed for now. Wait for the studio’s next steps rather than inventing a bridge or sell instruction. Abstract’s own December 15, 2026 migrate-by date still applies to funds on the L2 itself (Abstract wind-down article).
Players who farmed Marbles or Abstract XP
Marbles are gone from the game. Abstract XP no longer counts toward anything, per OCH. There is no stated payout or conversion for XP already earned.
Expedition Pass holders
If you have unused days left, open My Pass and cancel if you want the pro-rata VALOR refund. Check live UI at playmog.xyz (opens in new tab) for whether new passes are still on sale. VALOR withdrawals to USDC follow the docs’ fee and delay rules.
Arcade runners facing Mini Jackalot
Expect either a Gem or 100 Treasure on defeat, with Gem odds unchanged and defeats counting toward the weekly pool.
Collectors
No new mint is announced. Franchise NFT context stays on Ringbearers, Genesis Heroes, Genesis Rings, and related collection pages. Fate of Abstract-settled holdings after December 15 still needs studio and chain guidance.

- Whether Expedition Pass remains on sale after refunds opened
- Live My Pass cancel UI and VALOR balances at playmog.xyz (opens in new tab)
- Docs lag: Marbles and Abstract XP pages may still read as current earn guides until updated
Bottom line: Keep Ringbearers, heroes, and MoG keys in place until OCH shares next steps. If you hold an Expedition Pass with unused days, cancel via My Pass for a VALOR refund if you want it. Treat Marbles and Abstract XP as closed loops, and keep Abstract’s December 15 migrate-by date on your calendar for any funds still on the L2.
