OpenSea Update: Solana NFT trading is live

OpenSea opened Solana NFT trading on September 1, 2026. Collectors can list and bid on Solana collections in the same OpenSea interface used for other chains, once a Solana-capable wallet is connected. Solana is not an EVM chain, so a MetaMask-only setup is not enough unless OpenSea’s connect UI already offers a Solana path.

Background

OpenSea is a multi-chain NFT marketplace. Most of its NFT networks are EVM-compatible: Ethereum-style accounts that wallets such as MetaMask can sign. Solana is not EVM. Addresses and signatures follow a different format. A Solana NFT is not the same object as an Ethereum ERC-721, even if both show up in one website.

OpenSea first tried Solana NFTs in an April 2022 beta. The Block⁠ (opens in new tab) says that rollout covered about 165 collections and gained limited traction. Magic Eden and Tensor took most Solana NFT volume then. Earlier in 2026, Magic Eden shut its Bitcoin and EVM marketplaces to refocus on Solana, per the same report.

In April 2025, OpenSea’s OS2 rebuild brought Solana back for fungible tokens, with NFTs described as a follow-on. The Block also notes that SOL had already been usable as payment for NFTs on other chains last year. That token-era listing is why Solana already appears among OpenSea’s supported networks. It is not the same product as NFT buy and sell.

Rarible opened a Solana marketplace in August 2026 with Claynosaurz featured. That is another marketplace on the same chain. OpenSea’s NFT trading go-live is September 1, 2026; OS2 token support is the earlier, separate layer.

According to The Block, NFT marketplace volumes sit far below the 2021–22 peak, and Binance closed its centralized NFT service in June.

What happened

September 1 go-live on X and Discord

On September 1, 2026, OpenSea posted on X⁠ (opens in new tab) that Solana NFTs are now live. The post said top Solana collections can be traded and bid on from one place.

The same day, OpenSea posted in the official OpenSea Discord⁠ (opens in new tab) that Solana NFTs are now live, and linked that X announcement.

August 31 coverage and the delayed window

The Block⁠ (opens in new tab) published on August 31, 2026 (updated the same day) that OpenSea had added Solana NFT trading more than four years after the 2022 beta. An editor’s note on that article said that after publication, OpenSea told The Block trading was not yet live and was expected this week (the week of August 31). That delayed window closed with the September 1 posts.

The September 1 X and Discord posts mark go-live. The August 31 Block headline was coverage ahead of that window, not the start date.

OpenSea’s August 28, 2026 digest⁠ (opens in new tab) lists a related-article teaser dated 8.31.2026: “OpenSea Adds Support for Solana NFTs.” It names Mad Lads and Claynosaurz and cites more than 25 blockchains.

Named Solana collections

Via The Block, OpenSea named Claynosaurz, Mad Lads, BoDoggos, Collector Crypt, and Phygitals as examples you can find and trade. The digest teaser repeats Mad Lads and Claynosaurz.

OS2 tokens versus NFTs

An OpenSea representative told The Block⁠ (opens in new tab) that OS2 was rebuilt as a multi-chain platform. The team started with Solana token support; NFT trading is the later add. Solana is OpenSea’s first non-EVM chain for NFT trading since the 2022 beta ended.

Until September 1, Solana on OpenSea meant token swaps, not NFT listings. Buy, sell, and bid on Solana NFTs is what went live that day.

Help Center may still say tokens only

On September 1, 2026, OpenSea Help still described Solana as token swapping, not NFTs (blockchains compatible with OpenSea⁠ (opens in new tab)). Prefer the live OpenSea UI and the September 1 X post over a Help line that has not caught up.

Who it affects

Players

Solana game inventory does not automatically appear on OpenSea. If your items sit on Solana, check whether that collection is actually listed there. Games such as Elumia and Daemons use Solana in the catalog; that does not mean their NFTs are for sale on OpenSea.

In-game utility still follows the title’s own inventory rules. Check the live OpenSea collection page before you treat a game NFT as listed.

Collectors

If you already use OpenSea on EVM chains, Solana NFTs now sit in the same product, but they need a Solana-capable wallet. Check OpenSea’s connect UI for the Solana option rather than assuming MetaMask covers it.

Compare fees and royalties with Magic Eden before you move listings, and check bid depth on the live page. If you hold Claynosaurz or Mad Lads, look up that OpenSea collection view. Named examples are not a guarantee that every Solana PFP is listed.
