Ronin Governance: RON holder votes and RGP-1 Katana LP in October
On September 22, 2026, Ronin’s blog (opens in new tab) published the first Ronin Governance framework for RON holders. The framework lets RON holders vote on economic and treasury decisions. Protocol and security-critical choices stay with validator governance for now. The first proposal process, RGP-1, is set to begin in October and asks whether treasury assets should become liquidity for RON/WETH and RON/USDC on Katana.
Background
Ronin is Sky Mavis’s gaming-focused Ethereum L2. RON pays gas and is used in marketplace and DEX activity on the chain. Katana (opens in new tab) is the ecosystem DEX at app.roninchain.com/swap (opens in new tab).
Earlier in 2026, Ronin moved builder pay toward Proof of Distribution (PoD) (opens in new tab), where registered studios earn RON from measured on-chain activity. The July PoD and Honor Score piece covered early seasons and a Governance Dashboard targeted for Q3 2026, plus a plan to route about 90 million RON from former staking rewards into the ecosystem and treasury. The September 22 post turns that roadmap into a holder voting framework and names the first proposal.
What happened
Holder votes on economic scope
Per the Ronin Governance post (opens in new tab):
- Holders vote on economic and treasury proposals that affect the ecosystem.
- Scope can grow over time. Protocol and security-critical decisions remain under validator governance for now.
- Voting power is 1 RON = 1 vote. A proposal needs a 66% supermajority to pass.
- You only vote on proposals that come out of forum discussion and a temperature check by the Ronin Ecosystem team. That gate is how Ronin frames takeover risk under 1:1 voting.
The Ecosystem team says it built a four-step process for the first proposal. The public post does not list those four steps by name.
RGP-1: treasury liquidity on Katana
RGP-1 is the first named proposal. The process is set to begin in October. It asks whether existing treasury reserves should fund liquidity for RON/WETH and RON/USDC on Katana.
Ronin says a pass would deepen RON markets, make price discovery easier, and cut slippage, with more trading fees flowing to the treasury as activity grows. Future liquidity top-ups would follow parameters approved through governance. The post does not publish the exact LP size for RGP-1.
Treasury funding schedule
The same post restates the earlier 90 million RON staking-reward return and adds transfer math:

Ronin says the multi-year pace follows its whitepaper, tokenomics, and vesting schedule for RON that is still unlocking. Once unlocked, that RON is meant to go to the treasury under this plan.
RON Conviction on PoD (live since September 10)
Starting September 10, 2026, PoD Builder Scores use a RON Conviction multiplier. Communities that show stronger RON conviction get a higher multiplier and more PoD RON. Lower conviction lowers the score.
Formula for now:
1 + net conviction / (gross conviction + K)
- Net: RON or wRON bought or sold by the builder’s users (trailing 30 days)
- Gross: total RON or wRON traded
- K: median trading volume across all active builders
Examples from the post: a Builder Score of 700 with a 1.1 multiplier becomes 770; a score of 300 with 0.8 becomes 240.
Ronin Score (in development)
Ronin is also building Ronin Score for user reputation across the ecosystem, while Builder Score stays the builder side. An early Honor Score version already helped pick 1,000 Ronin users for a Yakkamon free mint. Further utility for Ronin Score is still TBA.
Who it affects
RON holders
If you hold RON, October is when the first RGP-1 process is scheduled to open. Watch the Ronin blog (opens in new tab) and Ronin docs (opens in new tab) for the forum, temperature check, and vote UI. Until those tools ship, there is nothing to click. Holding RON for gas already works the same way; governance is an extra use of the same token balance under the rules above.
Players
Daily play loops do not change on announce day. Deeper Katana RON pairs, if RGP-1 passes and liquidity is deployed, would mainly show up as better swap depth when you move RON, WETH, or USDC for fees or in-game buys. That outcome still depends on a future vote and deployment.
