Onchain Heroes Maze of Gains: Greed returns as a Legendary talent

Onchain Heroes shipped a Maze of Gains patch on August 20, 2026, alongside its weekly stats thread. Greed is back as a Legendary talent, legendary picks are more common, and mobile runs get speed and graphics fixes. If you push deep floors for Treasure, Bounties, or Throne shots, the build math and the phone client both changed this week.

Background

Onchain Heroes: Maze of Gains is a free-to-open maze crawler from the Onchain Heroes studio on Abstract. Runs use turn-based floors and upgrade cards. Eve Keys unlock World's Eve goals that sit on top of that maze loop. Franchise utility runs through the HERO token.

The studio has spent mid-2026 iterating MoG after the MoG 2.0 rebuild window. This August 20 post is a mid-season balance and client patch, not a new season launch. Play lives at mog.onchainheroes.xyz (opens in new tab) and the franchise hub at onchainheroes.xyz (opens in new tab).

What happened

On August 20, 2026, Onchain Heroes posted the weekly update in the official Onchain Heroes Discord (opens in new tab) and as a thread on X (@onchainheroes) (opens in new tab). The studio called it a big patch and grouped the notes under mobile performance, gameplay, and stash or earnings UI.

Weekly snapshot (studio figures)

Treat these as a one-week studio snapshot from the same thread, not a checked market floor:

MetricFigure
Runs created7,029
Keys burnt56,047
Weekly prize pool$39,233
Gem payouts to players$10,063

Mobile performance

  • Runs feel smoother after speed work on the mobile client
  • Fix for stuttering after unlocking a phone
  • Android: taps on the Throne reel register correctly
  • New Graphics Quality setting with High and Medium options

Gameplay changes

  • Greed returns as a Legendary talent under Economy: 1.2× / 1.3× / 1.5× Treasure, with +40% / +60% / +80% damage taken at those tiers
  • Legendary drop rate moved from about 4% to about 10% (studio figures)
  • Unknown Trainer swaps now cost a flat 20 Energy each (previously 50–150 Treasure)

Stash and earnings UI

  • Bounty and Throne tiles are clickable and open per-win history
  • Gem wins count toward lifetime Bounties (the lifetime total previously showed 0 for everyone)
  • The Throne winner exclusive soulbound skin appears in the Throne info modal

The thread closed with the studio line: more Legendaries, smoother mobile, better records.

Who it affects

Players

If you play on phone, open settings and try Medium graphics if High still stutters after unlock. Android Throne players should re-test reel taps after the prior miss-input bug.

Greed is a high-risk Economy pick again: more Treasure on the card, more damage taken for the rest of the fight path.

Higher legendary odds mean talent rerolls and late-floor picks skew more often toward Legendary slots.

Unknown Trainer swaps no longer burn a large Treasure band; budget Energy for swaps instead.

Stash players who chase Bounties or Throne should open the new history views and check that lifetime Bounty totals finally include gem wins.

Collectors

This patch does not announce a new mint. Soulbound Throne winner cosmetics now show in the Throne modal, which matters if you track winner cosmetics socially. Franchise NFT context is on related collection pages such as Genesis Heroes and Ringbearers. Verify any marketplace listing against those pages before trading.

What to watch next

  • Whether Greed's damage penalty needs a follow-up balance pass after the higher legendary rate
  • Mobile feedback after players settle on High vs Medium graphics
  • Next weekly Discord or X (opens in new tab) thread for prize-pool and gem-payout movement
  • Studio docs at docs.onchainheroes.xyz (opens in new tab) if talent or Trainer costs get a lasting rules page

Bottom line: Before your next deep run, decide whether Greed's Treasure multiplier is worth the extra damage, and check Graphics Quality plus Bounty/Throne history so you are playing the live client rules, not last week's mental model.
