Ubisoft sunsets Champions Tactics on October 30: play until then, then Fates

Ubisoft will shut down Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on October 30, 2026. The turn-based RPG launched in October 2024 with mintable, tradable character NFTs on Oasys. Ubisoft already began phasing out blockchain features in May 2026. Servers will stay up until the October date, but in-app purchases are disabled now. Active players should finish any remaining runs and treat store buys as closed. Ubisoft is inviting high-ranked players who want to keep competing to move to its other title, Might and Magic: Fates on Immutable, with exclusive in-game rewards.

Background

Champions Tactics was Ubisoft’s Web3 competitive RPG: build a squad of three characters, fight turn-based battles, and (at launch) mint those units as NFTs you could buy or sell with in-game currency or crypto. That model sat on Oasys infrastructure.

By May 2026, Ubisoft told players it would progressively transition away from blockchain functionality, citing changes to the Oasys stack that had powered minting and marketplace trades (Kotaku (opens in new tab)). A separate free-to-play build, Champions Tactics Reforged on Steam, had already dropped the NFT layer. The October sunset closes the live-service window entirely, about two years after launch.

Might and Magic: Fates, Ubisoft’s hero-duel TCG on Immutable zkEVM, is the live Ubisoft card title still shipping patches and optional NFT cards after this wind-down.

What happened

Sunset announcement (late July / early August 2026)

Video Games Chronicle (opens in new tab) (1 August 2026) and Kotaku (opens in new tab) (31 July 2026) reported Ubisoft’s Discord notice. Key points from the quoted message:

• Ubisoft decided to sunset Champions Tactics after careful consideration.
• Servers shut down on October 30 (year 2026 in the press coverage).
• Until then the game will remain fully playable.
• In-app purchases are disabled on all platforms as part of the transition.
• More reminders will follow as the shutdown date approaches.

The Verge (opens in new tab) matched the October 30 server date and the earlier blockchain phase-out.

Cited coverage does not spell out NFT refunds, marketplace unwind steps, or a claim window for leftover soft currency. Treat secondary-market listings and on-chain holdings as separate from whether the live game still runs.

May 2026: blockchain already off the critical path

Months before the sunset notice, Ubisoft had already told the community it was leaving blockchain features behind. Kotaku ties that May message to Oasys infrastructure changes. For players, that meant character NFTs and crypto marketplace loops were no longer the product promise months before the October 30 shutdown.

Funnel toward Might and Magic: Fates

Kotaku reports Ubisoft is offering high-ranked Champions Tactics players exclusive in-game rewards if they move to Might and Magic: Fates. Exact rank thresholds, reward SKUs, and claim deadlines were not published in that piece. If you qualify, check Ubisoft’s Champions Tactics / Fates channels before October 30 rather than assuming a permanent offer.

Players still on Champions Tactics

You can keep playing until October 30, 2026. Do not buy IAP: the store is already closed. Finish battle passes, events, or cosmetics you care about in-client. After shutdown, expect the client and servers to become inaccessible; cited coverage does not promise offline modes or account export.

If you also play Reforged on Steam, treat it as a separate product with its own storefront status. The Grimoria Chronicles live service is what this sunset targets.

Collectors and prior NFT buyers

Blockchain minting and trading were already being removed from May onward. On-chain assets that still sit in wallets do not keep the live game online after October 30. Coverage does not document a Ubisoft refund program. Verify any remaining marketplace listings yourself; Web3Raider does not list Champions Tactics collections in catalog.

Fates and Immutable players

This is not a Fates patch. It is a publisher migration signal. If you hold or trade Might and Magic: Fates cards, keep following Fates patch notes and Immutable Passport flows. Cross-promotion rewards for CT ranked players are a one-time funnel, not a change to Fates card contracts.
